Microscopy for symptomatic men: not all symptoms are born equal

Microscopy results for symptomatic male patients were reviewed in order to identify clinical correlates of urethritis as diagnosed by same-day microscopy. Higher polymorph counts were found in patients presenting with discharge, or discharge together with dysuria, but dysuria without discharge was strongly associated with negative urethral microscopy. Symptoms were strongly linked to microscopy outcome but partnerships were not linked to either symptoms or outcome.

Regulation of brothels: an update (NSW Parlimentary Library Research Service)

An article in the Sydney Morning Herald on 11 October 2011 quoted a Government spokesperson stating: The government is currently developing options for the delivery of its commitment to close down illegal brothels and properly regulate approved operations through the creation of a Brothel Licensing Authority, and will progress these matters in the near future.

Australian Policy online: Research and resources in the public interest: the teen sexting panic

Nina Funnell questions the extent to which the discourse around protecting children is really controlling, policing and pathologising them.

Funnell demonstrates, through an analysis of media surrounding the phenomenon of so-called ‘sexting’, that the popular reporting of physically candid image sharing is based on inaccurate and heavily gendered assumptions about victimisation and self-expression. Further, she shows that the consequences and repercussions of sexting have been exaggerated or misreported, particularly in cases ending in teen suicide.
