GP Census 2010

The State Wide General Practice census is slated for mid May 2010. Census week will be the week commencing 17th May.

If you would like to check the STATEWIDE census data for 2009 you can do so from here.

Here are some interesting Statewide facts from the last census – this is ALL of QLD:
• 68% of GPs are receiving electronic discharge summaries (EDS) from public hospitals
• 76% of GPs are neutral to very satisfied with the timeliness of the EDS from public hospitals
• 79% of GPs are neutral to very satisfied with the quality of the EDS from public hospitals
• 20% of GPs intend to reduce their number of sessions or leave general practice in the next 12 months

Congratulations!

The Division management and staff wish to congratulate Chancellor Park Family Medical Practice who was recently notified by AGPAL that their practice has been awarded a practice accreditation excellence award for 2009. Fewer than 100 practices nationally received this award.

Subsequently the Sunshine Coast practice is now in the running for the AGPAL Practice of the Year Award to be announced at the AGPAL conference in May.
Our very best wishes to the excellent team at Chancellor Park Family Medical Practice and good luck for the announcement in May.

New website available to promote self management of diabetes among Indigenous people

The website is called How's Your Sugar? and has been developed by the Australian Community Centre for Diabetes at Victoria university, in collaboration with Indigenous people.

How's Your Sugar? is an interactive site with videos of people talking about how you can live well with diabetes, quizzes, a game (soon to come) and an online registration for appointment reminders.
 

Decoding Diabetes Course

The Division has a limited number of funded places available for practice nurses to attend the Decoding Diabetes one day workshop to be held in Brisbane on 17 June 2010.

Orientation Program for Nurses New to General Practice (Online)

A new online orientation program has been developed for nurses new to general practice. The program focuses on nurses who are unable to attend face-to-face workshops, providing them with knowledge and baseline skills required to deliver high quality and safe health care services.
Topics covered will include:

• Professional practice
• Provision of clinical care
• Management of clinical systems
• Collaborative practice

Practice Nurses - Domestic Violence Training Two Day Workshop (FREE)

Graduate Certificate in Nursing (General Practice)

The University of the Sunshine Coast offers this accredited course in collaboration with the AGPN. Enrolment commences June 2010. This Graduate Certificate is offered as a distance learning course in three consecutive modules offered through the AGPN with University adjunct tutors across the country. GSK Childhood Immunisation Awards 2010

The 2010 GSK Childhood Immunisation Awards are now open. There are four awards for 2010 that are each valued at $15,000. Closing The Gap DVD available for free!!

Thanks to the financial support of GPQ & AGPN, our recent Closing the Gap event was filmed and a DVD has been produced. A two disc resource; with keynote speakers Professor Noel Hayman, Dr Geoffrey Spurling and Dr Zoltan Bourne delivering important messages on Indigenous Health and Chronic Disease Management.
